Travel Anecdotes – L’Epicier Grand Cru, Strasbourg

Life took us to Strasbourg this autumn and we enjoyed dinner at this cute little fromagerie on 64 Grand Rue and in the company of a beloved friend whom we hadn’t seen for awhile. The restaurant is set in two properties facing each other across the small street. On one side the premise stored all the cheese abd on the other premise the wine was stored. Our friend booked us a table in the wine property and when we arrived her name was written on a place card on the table.

The menu was divided into small boards:- cheese salad, cheese dining platter, raclette, fondue and dessert. We ordered a small cheese dining platter comprising of six classic types of cheese from around France and a serving of raclette for two.

We loved the whole experience – it felt authentic, fresh and cozy. We sat by the window and watched life flow past us on the streets as we caught up with our histories and future, and stimulated our palates with the salty, buttery, tangy, nuttiness of different cheese melting on our tongues and neutralised with hot, tender potatoes. I ended the night with a mental note to buy a raclette cheese melter in this trip 😀

  1. What a great time it must have been catching up with your friend ~ the ambiance of the place looks perfect (as to the dishes!). Cheers to a great finish to the weekend.
