Aesthetics – Sicilian waters

Our main sentiment upon leaving Sicily is that we wanted to return. It is too big an island and too regionally diverse to rest our laurels of discovery within one trip. Everything we saw had its own unique beauty and we only went to two towns- Taormina which is where everyone goes to in the north east and San Vito Lo Capo, on the other side of the island at the north west which is a little more off the beaten track. We swam in four beaches and marvelled at how different each beach looked and felt from each other.

Taormina

San Vito Lo Capo, a four and a half hour drive from Taormina on the other side of the island, has as its main beach what is often touted as Sicily’s Caribbean island.

Pebbly beaches of Makari in San Vito Lo Capo. Its amazing that within a 10 minute drive from the main sandy beach of San Vito Lo Cap9, there is the Spiaggia di Macari where the waters are so clear and pure you see right to the bottom of the ocean. The catch with pebbly beaches is of course how it hurts your feet to walk on them before you get a taste of such cool delicious waters but the reward is the most refreshing swim you can have on a hot summer’s day. Ah bewitching Sicilia…

  1. Oh my goodness! Blue, blue, blue! And those clean sparkling waters!

As I’ve mentioned to you before, I’ve never been to Sicily … and I don’t know why considering that I love love love Italy and have been going to that country since I was 11 years old.

Fantastic photos. What sort of food did you eat? Lots of fish, vegetables and pasta, I suppose?
