This Nabatean city has featured in so many Hollywood movies (Indiana Jones- The Last Crusade, The Mummy, Aladdin, Lawrence of Arabia to name a few) and was deservingly included in the New Seven Wonders of the World by UNESCO. Utterly unique and magnificent, the carving of The Treasury was a visual feast, and the fascinating history made for such an educational day. If you plan to complete the whole city-site it is a full day’s walk – starting from the Bab Al Siq to the Monastery is the usual terrain. We arrived in Petra after lunch and decided to make two half day visits. The first day, we went through Bab Al Sqi, the Obelisk Tomb and the Siq. The following day, we jumped into a cart that took us to the Treasury (Al Khazanah) which is the most celebrated face of Petra, and from there we walked to the monastery but did not climb up the steps because we were running late. We thought we’d save it for another visit where we would have an early start to the day, and meditate more meaningfully with all of its historical resonance. For now, these were the visual memories from a few chilly January days.

Aww glad you enjoyed the photos… and you are too right, it took a few flights and a long drive where I was from too- scientific advancement as to make teleporting an option!

Petra is truly amazing and enigmatic as well.. I didn’t study much about it, but it’s for sure that the enigma of the Petra and the other worldly environment surrounding it have attracted many inquisitive travelers for centuries and more recently, movie makers too (the Wadi Rum was the inspiration for the Martian movie and the Petra itself an inspiration for Transformers movie) .. Lovely pictures (loved the cat the most among these pictures 🤩)

Gosh it does sound like an interesting book but I have to say I have poor comprehension with anything scientific… I love the idea of time travel though only as a visitor I don’t think I want to live in past centuries hah

I hope you will return to Jordan indeed! May I also suggest Lebanon (if you havent visited)… I know its not the greatest time to visit though so perhaps hopefully in the future… its just Lebanon has so much landscape and ancient architecture and culture… and no matter how much they have endured their joy for life is unstoppable… also again in case you haven’t visited North Africa, I was really taken by Tunisia. Special generous people and just a beautiful coastal rustic town perched on the mediterranean sea… it still features in my dreams!

Lebanon and Syria (especially Damascus) are a couple of dream locations for me… and I hope to have the opportunity to explore both. I like how you say, “no matter how much they have endured, their joy for life is unstoppable…” This is the beauty I love about travel and getting to know the people (even if only on a very small level).
