Reflections on Reflecting

Off late, I’ve come to realise how important blogging has been to my own internal evolution. Ultimately, I’ve used the blog partially to live a more examined life – to inspect deeper into a current state of mind, meditate on the blockages and choose more mindful patterns of behaviour. There were recurring themes of sentiments – articulating it helped identify what were my ‘tension spots’ and how I could help heal it. Perhaps something is to be said about repetitively dissecting the same trauma with many faces and meeting it with ‘constructive self-talk’ – the process is slow but eventually intangible shifts do occur. From constantly having negative knee-jerk reactions to certain incidents or circumstances, I started to understand the root of these reactions and this somehow diluted the flavour of the emotion. So much of self-inflicted ‘blockages’ are closely interwoven with the struggle to accept and validate ourselves. As we start to acknowledge the totality of who we are- that one can be loving and mean, diligent and lazy, kind and selfish, patient and hasty, intelligent and ignorant, grateful and entitled- we also learn to respect and have empathy for our own humanity.

In recent times, I feel the heavy cloak of self-shame has slowly started to lighten, and the next chapter is about embodying the life of someone who truly believes in her own voice and agency.
