We took this trip back in 2012. I had some vague recollection of a childhood family holiday here but as an adult with a fresh lens of the country, it all seemed so much more meaningful and special of course. Izmir in general had a wonderful Mediterranean coastal town vibe – laid back, easy, simple, amazing seafood (gorgeous squid salads in white nautical restaurants by the Aegen sea) and of course, the seat of Ephesus. Here’s a few photos of these ancients ruins taken yet again on a totally dysfunctional iPhone back then…
Final Words
We spent one day dedicated to Ephesus which was such a gorgeous treat – touring the ruins of a city occupied by so many ancient civilisations including the Greeks, Romans and Persians. The library of Selcus and Temple of Artemis/ Diana were the most unmissable remnants. It always impresses me how thousands of year ago civilisation was so aesthetically magnificent, especially when I find contemporary architecture less pleasing to the eye. If it’s your first trip to Turkey, and you have at least one week of sightseeing, you probably want to put Izmir high on your list, not necessarily for the beaches but for this historical relic.
Gorgeous pictures!

thank you! Definitely the work of Ephesus itself and not the old and broken phone camera 🙂

Thanks for the like and the follow of misplaced mapcase. Enjoyed reading a number of your reflections and anecdotes this early morning in Christchurch. Your photos of Ephesus along with Facebook reminded me of our visit there exactly four years ago. Cheers.

Thank you so much! I had to dig out photos taken from 2012 and back then I was clueless abt capturing or recording travels for any reason much less a blog. 2011-2013 was a beautiful time in my life, living in Turkey and my only regret is that I did not travel more to all her beautiful sights and capture more memorable photos. Thanks for dropping by 😊
