Aesthetics – Bits of Zagreb

Zagreb was the first city we landed on in the Balkan area and we immediately warmed to it. It was a crazy hot 30 + degrees August, and we were anxious to extricate ourselves from neighbouring Budapest, which we found a little cold, emotionally. People smiled here, they were a little louder and I liked the look of the city visually. Beautiful in a broken, haunting and still somewhat regal way. With a city famous for its Museum of Broken Relationships, you just know there was a place here for the alternative tribes of the world. As is always the case for us when venturing to a new place, the thrill was mainly in walking through the old town, roaming down different streets aimlessly, absorbing the look of alleyways, passersby, locals, tourists, cafes and vehicles. Croatia has too much to offer for a relatively small strip of a country, and Zagreb is barely the beginning of it all.
