I didn’t realise there were grapevines in India until recently. The only other one we visited was somewhere between Lausanne and Geneva… it was half bald and my shoes were killing me was my main memory of that event. I was impressed with this landscape in Nashik, a small town about 4 1/2 hours drive away from Bombay. Friends commented that our photos looked very much like Bordeaux, which tickled us. In our last visit to India last year, we stayed at the Summer Vines (link here) which was a very clean and basic hotel owned by a Parsi family and which catered for all your meals. There is also a swimming pool, games room and tennis courts all overlooking the vineyard.
Aesthetics – Grapevines of India

Gorgeous! So unexpected and such a beautiful green colour. Do they actually make wine? Or are the grapes used for another purpose?

Totallyu expected isnt it?? Apparently they do make wine but it goes straight out the vineyard for export… as such not consumed at all in the vineyard…

Your post is strictly for Trivia Pursuit :- o) Does India make wine . . . .
How long has this vineyard been going – I didn’t know that India produced their own wine.
When I first went to India (Bombay 1963) I had to sign on with the police to get a bottle of beer at the local club!

Haha.. wow I had no idea about the 1963 situation regarding beer 🙂 seems so different to the Bombay I see today with alcohol being very available… I didn’t actually know that India had vineyards and made wine either until we came here. They didn’t serve it in the hotel I think it goes straight for sale outside. Later when chatting to some friends about this we realised that there are quite a number of these types of private vineyards in India – come to think of it am not even sure if they export it or they sell it within the country… we don’t drink so the whole process is foreign to us.
